FAQs

What is the best way to avoid costly repairs and expensive service calls?

The most effective way to keep your system running properly and efficiently is with regular maintenance, including regular filter changes and clearing of your drain line. Blocked drains are very common here in southwest Florida and one of the most common reasons for no cooling calls. Some condensate drains require more frequent maintenance. If your thermostat has gone blank and/or there is water in your drain safety switch, there is a good chance that your drain line is clogged. If you are comfortable, you can try to clear the line by attaching a shop vac to the condensate drain outlet and letting it run for approximately 10 minutes to try and resolve the issue. For more tips related to this process, feel free to call us at (239) 218-0549.

How often should I have my HVAC systems serviced?

We recommend servicing your HVAC equipment twice annually to ensure proper function, prevent break-downs and thoroughly clear drain lines. Regular maintenance can help extend the service life of your equipment and maintain efficiency.

How often should filters be cleaned/replaced?

Inexpensive, disposable filters should be replaced every 1 - 2 months, while premium filters can last up to 2 - 4 months especially if in higher locations, such as ceilings. If you have a custom media filter that is not disposable, we recommend carefully cleaning every 1 - 2 months. Replacing/cleaning filters regularly keeps your HVAC system operating efficiently while helping to reduce dirt, dust and household allergens.

Is there anything I can do to maintain my HVAC unit in between service visits?

  • Ensure that all cracks and windows are sealed to prevent cool air loss.
  • Be sure that large shrubs or plants are trimmed back and away from your A/C unit to prevent buildup of debris and help to allow proper airflow.
  • Change filters regularly as mentioned above.

Are there any other helpful hints homeowners should be aware of?

  • Never leave the fan setting in your thermostat in the on position. This will cause the humidity level in your home to increase significantly, which will increase electrical consumption and decrease comfort.
  • If you are planning to invest in a ductless A/C system for your garage, we recommend evaluating your attic/garage door insulation to prevent heat loss and maximize efficiency.
